Homemade Flavored & Roasted Pumpkin Seeds
Now that Halloween is over and Thanksgiving is around the corner, I wanted to show you a fun yet festive way to honor all of the Halloween pumpkins by roasting and creating your own unique and flavorful pumpkin seed snacks.
Pumpkin seeds can be a great stand-alone treat or they are great added to a favorite, Fall dish. In today’s blog post, I share three flavor combinations that are sure to excite: 1) the classic savory profile of sea salt is always a crowd pleaser. My children and I prefer sweet notes, and so I added 2) pumpkin spice and brown sugar for a Fall take on the treat, and then ended with the beautiful pairing of 3) cinnamon and sugar.
Whether you retrieve the pumpkin seeds as you carve pumpkins with your family and friends, or have leftover pumpkin seeds I hope you enjoy adding your own twist to the classic roasted pumpkin seeds snack.

To make your own roasted pumpkin seeds, you will need:
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit .
Step 2: Remove the core from the pumpkin with the knife.
Step 3: With your hands and the spoon remove all of the seeds from the inside of the pumpkin. Separate the pumpkin guts and puree from the seeds and place the clean seeds in a fresh bowl.
*Keep the trash bucket nearby for the pumpkin puree and pumpkin guts.
*This is a great activity to do with kids.
Step 4: Add water to the seed bowl and swirl the water around until the seeds float to the top.
Step 5: With your hand strainer, remove the pumpkin seeds from the water and lay them onto a paper towel lined plate.
Step 6: Allow the pumpkin seeds to dry for about an hour.
Step 7: Place the pumpkin seeds in a bowl, and add about a 1/2 tablespoon of olive oil and sea salt for your classic flavor combination.
*Please feel free to add more or less than 1/2 tablespoon of seasonings to your pumpkin seeds based on your flavor preference. I found 1/2 a tablespoon of seasonings was a good addition to 1 cup of pumpkin seeds (which is what a medium sized pumpkin produced).
Step 8: With your hands or a spoon mix the olive oil and sea salt until the pumpkin seeds are evenly coated.
Step 9: In one even layer, place the pumpkin seeds onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet.
Step 10: Bake the pumpkin seeds for 30-45 minutes, or until they are golden and crispy. You may need to check on them every five minutes to ensure they don’t burn.
Step 11: Repeat steps 7-10 with your additional flavor combinations: 1) 1/2 tablespoon of pumpkin spice and 1/2 tablespoon of brown sugar with olive oil, and 2) 1/2 tablespoon of cinnamon and 1/2 tablespoon of sugar with olive oil.
Or, you may choose whatever flavor combinations your heart desires. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
In the meantime, I hope you enjoy making your own, festive and unique pumpkin seeds perfect for your next snack time or Fall gathering.
If you do create these for a party, be sure to label them so your guests know which flavor combination is their favorite!
