Bringing life back into a hundred year old general store

a look back

Once the heart of Ammansville, Texas, Country Peony Studio has roots in what was formerly AJ Cernosek Grocery, a beloved local gathering spot that operated until 1965.

The store featured home-baked goods, fresh produce, farm essentials, and Eugene’s Meat Market, making it a vibrant community hub for over two decades.

In a mission to preserve its history, we carefully deconstructed the original building, salvaging as much of the exterior wood as possible. While some of the interior wood was unsalvageable due to water and termite damage, we preserved the majority of the exterior wood to honor the beautiful history of the building and the community. Located near its original footprint, the studio pays homage to the past while embracing the present with a refreshed purpose.

The Country Peony Studio is now a space where we can dream, craft, and document inspiring DIY projects, host online workshops, sell handcrafted goods like our quilt jackets, and showcase events.

Elizabeth Jones

creative director & founder

Elizabeth Jones’ creative journey began on a Texas farm, where her love for crafting and design took root. After building a successful career in PR and events and starting a family, she returned to her countryside origins, settling into a charming farmhouse.

Long before the internet, Elizabeth spent countless hours learning from guests on The Carol Duvall Show and watching Martha Stewart work her magic on Martha Stewart Living. As she began working on her own projects, DIY became a therapeutic outlet.

She found immense satisfaction in bringing ideas to life, even when things didn’t always go as planned. For Elizabeth, the occasional DIY fails became valuable learning experiences—part of the adventure that comes with creating.

Today, Elizabeth shares her passion through colorful crafts and whimsical spaces! She inspires her audience as she brings her vision to life in both her craft studio and over 100 year old farmhouse.
