DIY Pumpkin Floral Centerpiece
If you have been following my blog for a while, you know that I love flowers. My blog is even named after my favorite flower. I try to add fresh flowers to my house as much as possible. I can’t always afford to purchase a designer bouquet, so I decided to use some grocery store flowers and foraged flowers from my yard and trees to create a fun Fall bouquet that fits nicely inside a real pumpkin.
Today I want to show you how I created a fun, floral pumpkin centerpiece for my recent Pumpkin Painting Party. I am not a floral designer, but I had so much fun putting this centerpiece together. This is a very simple tutorial that anyone can do. Remember, we are seeking pretty and happy, not perfection. Enjoy the process, and your final product will show the joy!

To make your own pumpkin floral centerpiece, you will need:
Step 1: With your knife remove the top core of the pumpkin. Use your mason jar as a guideline to determine the width of the hole.
Step 2: Clean out the interior of the pumpkin with your scooping spoon and hands. It is helpful to keep a trash bucket nearby to place all of the seeds and pumpkin puree in.
*Set the seeds aside for a special project that I will present on the blog next week.
Step 3: Add a little bleach to the inside of the pumpkin, and swirl around to ensure the pumpkin is coated. Then, set the pumpkin outside to dry.
*The bleach will help preserve the pumpkin so you can use your “pumpkin vase” for more than one use. However, if you have an aversion to bleach, you can skip this step.
Step 4: While the pumpkin is drying, prepare your jar for the flowers. Add the floral frog to the base of the jar or create a grid at the top of the mason jar with tape.
Then add cold water to the jar and plant food.
Step 5: Create your floral centerpiece.
Before you start, make sure that all of your flowers and foliage are prepped. Remove the extra stems and leaves, and use your floral shears to make a fresh cut so the flowers can soak up the water better.
Start with the foliage. Place the foliage around the base of the centerpiece, and let it hang over the jar to create movement. I also like to keep my foliage longer so it adds some whimsy to the piece.
Next, add your showstopper flowers. It is good to use 3 showstopper flowers so you can add one to three different sides, and they are visible from all angles.
Then, add your filler flowers throughout the centerpiece.
Lastly, finish with the fun details. Whether that is small berries, small fruits, sticks, ribbons, etc.
Don’t overthink the creation of the floral centerpiece. You can always start over if you don’t like the shape it is taking.
Step 6: Once your pumpkin is dry, nestle the floral centerpiece inside the pumpkin.
Then, enjoy your very custom creation for your Thanksgiving table, as a gift for a special friend, or for yourself.
I hope you have fun making your own pumpkin floral centerpiece.
