Handcrafted Silk Ribbons: The Process
When I started Country Peony Vintage last Fall, I wanted to create a space that felt like a natural extension of Country Peony. To inspire you to create a home you love through vintage and handmade goods. To find thrifted pieces that help tell your home’s unique story. I have had so much fun digging through garage sales, estate sales, and second hand shops to bring you some charming finds.
When I started Country Peony Vintage I knew that I wanted to bring my love of creating into the shop with handmade goods. The first handmade goods product was the Vintage Quilt Stocking Collection I launched with the help of my mother and daughter. I was so grateful for all of the love and support with the sell out of these stockings that I plan to make more this Christmas. The love and support also inspired me to bring more handmade goods into the shop.
This time around I thought it would be fun to bring a handcrafted item that serves as a building block for your next craft project, or as a beautiful stand alone piece styled on your bookshelf, or given to someone as a gift wrapped in stationery or for a special floral bouquet. Enter the handcrafted silk ribbons.
These handcrafted ribbons are made with 100% Habotai silk and 100% Chiffon silk. The whole process is truly custom, and carefully crafted. I hand dye each small batch with a custom color recipe, then hand wash, hang to dry, hand tear to create a beautiful raw edge, hand iron, and hand spool each ribbon onto handmade spools by my husband.
I have always loved ribbons. As a crafter, I spend way too much money on ribbons because they are such a beautiful complement to my handmade gifts, wreaths, and floral arrangements. I have also recently started to experiment with dying fabric, and I am hooked. I love how you can completely transform the look of fabric with a little bit of imagination, dye, and a lot of patience. I love how these ribbons turned out, and I can’t wait to add them to all of my crafting projects and floral bouquets.
The ribbons themselves are so beautiful. But, as a creative I love the truly handcrafted process behind them too. Recently, I invited the wonderful photographer, Diane Mueller, into my kitchen to photograph some behind-the-scenes of the ribbon-making process to help tell the story through pictures. Please enjoy the ribbon-making process below.
The Process
The first handcrafted silk ribbon launch will officially launch in my Etsy shop on Monday, April 5. This first collection will feature four colors, inspired by Spring:
Peony Pink: Our signature color. Peony Pink is the fairest and prettiest pinks of them all.
Wild Petunia: This is a vibrant purple that is sure to put a smile on your face!
Mint Green: The sweetest of greens that signifies the freshness of a Spring palette.
Champagne Rose: A lovely tan with hints of pink tones. The perfect base ribbon for any project.
Each color will be available in the 100% Habotai silk or 100% Chiffon silk, with the option of 1 inch or 2 inch widths at 3 yards. Each ribbon will come with a handmade wooden spool.
