Happy Spring! This time of year I take huge inspiration for my DIY projects from nature, and the gorgeous flowers that are abundant. I thought it would be fun to use Clover’s fantastic Flower Frill Template to create a happy and sweet Spring Fabric Floral Garland that would look beautiful as part of a tablescape, over a doorway, or on a mantle.
If you have been here for a while, you may know that I am a big fan of Clover’s products as witnessed by some of my recent posts: DIY Pom-Pom Lamp Shade, DIY Felt Heart Valentine’s Day Wreath, and DIY Personalized Rosette Ribbon Gift Topper.
Today I am working with Clover’s Flower Frill Template. Just like Clover’s Pom-Pom Makers and Tassel Makers, their Flower Frill Template makes it so easy and fun to create consistent product in less time, every time. I love playing with the different size templates in different fabrics to make cute projects from necklaces to whimsical gift bows. The best part is that you can use fabric scraps to make your own flowers.
Other than using your fabric scraps, the beauty in this DIY is that you can use customize it to any type of fabric or color you want. I recommend a fabric that is either a solid color or that has a print on both sides, since you will see both sides of the fabric on the finished flower. For this project, I used faux silk satin and tulle. I love the variety and texture that the tulle offers, and the sheen and opulence that the satin brings. I wanted some fun and unique colors for Spring which is why I chose rich blues and greens, freshened with lovely blush. When choosing a color palette, I recommend choosing three colors (black and white not included).
For your convenience, I have created a step-by-step video so you can see how I made the flower frills using Clover’s Flower Frill Template. Then continue below to follow the step-by-step images to make your own DIY Fabric Floral Garland this Spring.

Continue below for the step-by-step pictorial to make your own Spring Fabric Floral Garland.
To make your own flower frill garland, you will need:
Make the Flower Frills
Cut out (15-25) 5 3/4 inch fabric squares.
*Keep in mind the more fabric squares you use the fuller your flower will be.
*I created a 5 3/4 inch square template for the large template, and a 6 3/4 inch square template for the extra large template to help guide me as I cut the squares for the garland.
Thread the needle and make a knot. Then set it aside.
Fold the fabric square in half and place it inside the template at the arrows, number 1 crease.
Fold inwards toward the number 2.
Fold the number 3’s together on both sides of the template. Away from you.
The 1’s should be facing the outside on each side of the template.
Cut along the template at the curved top edge. Cut a little above the template line so you don’t cut the template.
Insert the needle and thread through the bottom of the petal. Be sure to thread through all of the folds.
Remove the template.
Repeat until you create 15-25 petals.
Remove the needle, tie the two ends of the thread together with a double knot.
Your flower frill is complete!
