DIY Halloween Front Porch with Estate Sale Finds featuring EstateSales.NET
*This post was created through a paid partnership with EstateSales.NET. However, all opinions are honest and 100% my own.
If you have been here for a while, you know that I love going thrifting and going to estate sales. There is something so beautiful about treasure hunting at an estate sale. I love giving used items new life through Secondhand Living.
Today I have a really fun project for you featuring estate sale finds. My front porch at the Country Peony Studio needed a Halloween makeover. Today I am so excited to partner with EstateSales.NET to decorate my front porch for Halloween using only estate sale finds.
I absolutely love how the front porch turned out, and I love that I gave used items new life in the process. Not only did this project cost less than if I were to buy the items at a big box store, but I was able to customize the pieces to fit my design aesthetic.
Today I want to take you along the journey of going to the estate sale, finding the treasures, updating the treasures to fit my front porch aesthetic, and then revealing the porch to you.
I hope this process inspires you to think outside of the box when you are decorating for the holidays, because estate sales have so many treasures. And, with a little creativity you can turn them into one-of-a-kind pieces that truly work within your space and you can continue to tell their story.
I also created this video to showcase some more fun behind the scenes.

Before we get started I wanted to highlight my favorite way to find estate sales.
How I Find Estate Sales in my Area Using the EstateSales.NET App and Website
When I want to find an estate sale in my area, my first and only place to look is through the EstateSales.NET app or on their website.
It is so user friendly. You can easily find estate sales in your area by looking at the map view or picture view. You can narrow down your search results by date, location, and to the type of sale. You can even shop for specific items and hire a company to run an estate sale for you.
My favorite part about the app is that I can look at pictures of items at the estate sale before I even go. I also love that I can favorite estate sales so that I remember to check them out.
Since Halloween was on my mind, for this particular project I was able to find an estate sale that was about 30 minutes from the studio with a lot of seasonal décor.
So let’s see what I found at the estate sale.
What I Found at The Estate Sale
This particular estate sale started at noon on a Thursday. I got there at about 12:15 pm and thankfully there wasn’t a large crowd. Sometimes, opening day has very long wait times because of the crowds.
Because of the pictures from EstateSales.NET I knew what I was looking for so I went straight to the seasonal section when I arrived.
The owner of these pieces had a beautiful collection. I was inspired by their love for seasonal décor, and I was so tempted to grab some vintage Christmas and Easter items. The paper mache bunny was adorable. But, I was there for Fall décor so I grabbed all of the pumpkins.
I also loved the glass collections that the owner had. The amber glass was stunning.
Along with the pumpkins, I found some faux greenery at a great price point. I also found some placemats and sheets for some DIY projects. Lastly, my favorite score of the trip was a statue. It had a large crack that was mended, but I knew she would make the perfect addition to my pumpkin field.
Since it was the first day, I did not negotiate the prices too much. The second and third days are ideal for negotiating. But, I wanted to ensure I had enough pumpkins for this project so I was happy to pay the price for them.
Overall, I was very happy with my finds and I was inspired to make them over for my Halloween front porch at the studio.
Now let’s move on to transforming the pieces for my front porch.
My Decorating Plan for the Front Porch
Whenever I am designing a space or event, I like to start with the color palette. For this project, I wanted to stick with Country Peony signature blush to match the front porch doors, and tie in the black as a nod to Halloween and to go with my black and white stripe awning. Then I added some touches of metallic to play off my copper sconces.
My vision for the front porch was to place my previously owned urns on either side of the double doors. Then add the spray painted faux ferns, and a spray painted branch with DIY fabric ghosts from the sheets. I wanted to use the placemats and spray painted pumpkins to create two wreaths for the front doors. Lastly, with the magic of spray paint I planned to transform the statue and the pumpkins.

Spray Paint Each Item to Match the Color Scheme
Spray paint can really be magical on vintage pieces. I loved adding spray paint to these pieces to give them a new and fresh life.
I chose to spray paint the faux ferns in matte black. The faux ferns were in bad shape, and I love how they remind me of spooky spiders in the matte black.
I also updated the statue with matte black spray paint. I absolutely love how regal and spooky she looks. I got the statue at a great price, because she had a crack that was mended. The crack isn’t noticeable anymore because of the black spray paint.
I spray painted the placemats a matte black, and then added a small touch of gold spray paint for some extra dimension.
And, I spray painted two large branches from my yard to hold the ghosts.
I also spray painted all of the pumpkins in blush pink to match my front doors.
Create the DIY Fabric Ghosts out of the Estate Sale Sheets
I wanted to create a fabric ghost project, because sheets are always available at estate sales and they are very inexpensive.
For the first step for the fabric ghosts I cut about a 12 inch X 12 inch square. I kept the edges ragged.
I used a white styrofoam egg that I had in storage to act as the base for the ghost head. However, you can use this technique with any small white ball.
I hot glued the craft wire to the ball.
Then I found the center of the square and I inserted the wire through it. *I attached two sheet layers to each ghost.
To keep the sheets from moving off of the egg in the wind, I hot glued one side of the sheets to the egg. Then, I hot glued the second sheet onto the first sheet on one side.
Then I cut out three small black felt circles for the eyes and mouth. I hot glued them to the sheet to create the ghost.
I created six ghosts for this project. Three ghosts on each branch.
I love how charming they turned out, and how simple they were to make.
Create the Halloween Wreaths out of the Wicker Pumpkins and Placemats
Mid project, I changed my mind for the door decoration. Originally, I wanted to create a swag to go above the door. However, I found two wire wreath frames in my craft storage and so I decided to add some color to the door instead with some spooky wreaths.
For the base of the wreaths, I used placemats from the estate sale. I spray painted them matte black and added a touch of gold for some dimension.
Once they were dry, I cut the placemat in half. Then I pinched the cut side together and attached it to the wreath frame with some craft wire. I covered the entire wreath frame with the cut placemats.
Then, I hot glued some cut spray painted ferns to the wreath for more coverage and whimsy. Finally, I attached painted wicker pumpkins to the wreath with craft wire.
Decorate the Front Porch for Halloween with Estate Sale Finds
I created the ghost tree bases by adding the spray painted ferns to an urn, then I inserted the spray painted branch into the fern.
I attached the fabric ghosts to the branches with craft wire.
I hung the Halloween wreaths onto the door. Then, I added the painted pink pumpkins, and the painted statue in a fun vignette near the door.
Halloween Porch Reveal with Estate Sale Finds
I love how the front porch turned out. I think it is the perfect blend of whimsy, pretty, and spooky Halloween.
The painted statue (my favorite find from the estate sale) looks so regal guarding her pink pumpkins.
I love how something so simple as a painted fern, spray painted branch, and simple sheets can create a fun ghost tree.
The placemats were a fun find, and they prove that inspiration is everywhere at estate sales.
