I love creating fabric yo-yos, and I love finding new ways to accessorize and decorate with them. Fabric yo-yos remind me of the trendy grandmillenial style. Grandmillenial style is still holding strong as a popular trend in design and fashion, and I love its feminine and vintage-inspired feel. Today I am so excited to partner with Clover and take a nod from the grandmillenial style to create a sweet and whimsical floral bouquet using Clover’s amazing “Quick” Yo-Yo Makers and some scrap fabric.
I love this project because it is a great beginner sewing project, and you can even get your children involved. I believe it would be look beautiful on your nightstand or as a charming handmade gift for a loved one!
The beauty with today’s project is that you can customize it to whatever color palette you want. When choosing a color palette, I recommend finding an inspiration fabric that you really like as the starting point. Then pull colors from that inspiration fabric. For this project, I used 7 different fabrics to create beautiful dimension and vintage-inspired charm.

This is the fourth time that I have used Clover’s “Quick” Yo-Yo Maker for a blog project, and just like their pom-pom makers and tassel makers it is so easy and fun to use. For my first fabric yo-yo project, I created a Fabric Yo-Yo Wreath , then I created Fabric Yo-Yo Earrings and most recently, a Fabric Yo-Yo Necklace. The beauty in making yo-yos is that you can use up scrap fabric, and they can be used in many different applications. When sewn together they can make a charming quilt, or they can be added to different projects to create that sweet factor. I have yet to make a quilt with fabric yo-yos, but I love finding other ways to use fabric yo-yos and today is a really fun one!

To make your own fabric yo-yo floral bouquet, you will need:
Step 1: Make the Fabric Yo-Yos using Clover’s “Quick” Yo-Yo Maker
Prepare the needle with thread, and double knot the thread.
Using the “Quick” Yo-Yo Maker as a guideline, cut a fabric square that is a 1/4” wider than the maker on all sides.
Separate the “Quick” Yo-Yo Maker, and place the fabric in between the maker plate and disk.
Place the right side of the fabric peeking through the hole in the plate. Align the disk lines with the plate marks, and snap into place.
Trim the fabric along the “Quick” Yo-Yo Maker plate line.
With the fabric folded in, thread through the fabric and insert the needle through the hole from the disk side to the plate side.
Repeat until you sew all the way around the circumference of the “Quick” Yo-Yo Maker.
Once you reach the end, sew one more stitch after the first stitch.
Remove the disk from the plate, and remove the fabric from the disk.
Pull the thread to create the circular shape.
Fluff up the yo-yo to create the round shape.
To secure the fabric yo-yo in place, sew through the center of the fabric yo-yo to the back. Then, secure it with a double knot.
Trim the thread, then enjoy your cute fabric yo-yo.
Make enough yo-yos in 3 different sizes for your floral bouquet. For my charming bouquet of 5 flowers, I created 5 extra large fabric yo-yos, 5 large fabric yo-yos, and 3 small fabric yo-yos.
Turn the Fabric Yo-Yos into Flowers
Make the flowers by sewing the fabric yo-yos together with the largest fabric yo-yo on the bottom. You can add all three sizes together, or just include 2 sizes.
Finish off the flower by sewing a button at the top.
Create the stem by painting a skewer with green craft paint.
Then create the leaves by cutting them into a simple leaf shape from green fabric.
Use a stiffening starch spray, and spray the leaves until wet. Then let them dry so they hold their shape.
Then, hot glue the stiffened leaf to the back of the fabric flower.
Finally, hot glue the stem to the back of the leaf on the back of the flower.
Create the Floral Bouquet Using the Fabric Yo-Yo Flowers
Find a cute vessel for the flowers to go in. I used a thrifted sugar vessel. Then, insert floral foam into the vessel.
Break off the skewers to create the right height for the flowers in the vessel.
One at a time, insert the flowers at varying heights into the vessel.
*Apply hot glue to the bottom of the skewer so that the flowers stay in place when you insert them into the floral foam.
Then, add leftover fabric strips or ribbon (like I did) to cover the floral foam. Hot glue the fabric or ribbon to parts of the floral foam so it stays in place. I used my hand dyed silk ribbons to add the perfect, finishing touch to this project!
