How to Make the Cutest Yarn Ghost Pillow this Halloween

Once I discovered that I could make Halloween decorations cute and colorful, I have been having so much making my own and decorating my studio for Halloween. This year I have been on a cute ghost kick, especially pink ghosts. I recently decorated my Halloween Christmas Tree with pink and white ghosts, and today I want to show you another DIY featuring colorful ghosts for your Halloween home decor: Ghost Pillow with Yarn.

I have seen these adorable ghost pillows at big box stores, and I have seen this technique using dollar store mop heads to create ghost pillows. The tutorial that really inspired me to create this ghost pillow was by Our Crafty Mom, and you can see her version HERE. I decided to add my own twist using yarn instead of a mop head in a fun color palette that was inspired by my ghost tassel garland from last year.

I love this ghost pillow project because it is so simple to make, and you can customize the colors to whatever colors of yarn you have on hand! Please enjoy the tutorial for this ghost pillow featuring yarn below.

But first, enjoy this video showcasing how to make yarn ghosts for a pillow.

Cut the Yarn Strands to Create the Ghost

Once you decide on your color palette, start the project by cutting 3 pieces of yarn.

*Each piece should be a little longer than the last.

Glue the Yarn Pieces Down to the Pillow to Make the Ghost

Then, decide on your ghost placement. You can either measure it out with a ruler and do a simple pen mark where you want each ghost to go. Or, you can choose my method and eyeball it :). Either process is great!

Then, apply Fabri-Tac directly to the back of the shortest piece of yarn. Find the center and pull both sides down and attach the yarn directly to the pillow.

Now, apply glue directly around the first strand of yarn onto the pillow.

Attach the second piece of yarn to the glue to continue to create the ghost arch.

Apply the glue around the second piece of yarn, and then attach the third (longest) piece of yarn to the pillow.

Trim the ends if you would like.

*Please keep in mind that the beauty of this project is that each ghost will look a little different so don’t worry too much about perfection!

Attach the Pearl Eyes to the Yarn Ghost

Add the eyes to the ghost. You can use something different here like felt, a sharpie marker, paint, etc. But I decided to add a little glam to the ghosts and create pearl eyes.

*Make sure the pearl is flat on one side for easy application!

Display and Enjoy Your Cute Yarn Ghost Pillow for Halloween

Continue to add the yarn ghosts to the pillow. Then, step back and enjoy your custom and charming pillow this Halloween!
