Hand Painted Candle: Heart Candles for Valentine's Day
I have seen hand painted candle tutorials floating around social media for several months, and so this week I thought it would be fun to try my own hand at hand painted candles. With Valentine’s Day around the corner I thought hearts would be the perfect first step to a hand painted candle! And, it was so much fun!
I hope you enjoy this tutorial to create your own hand painted candles for Valentine’s Day and year round! They are the sweetest and most unexpected way to dress up a tablescape for Valentine’s Day! Please enjoy all of the details below.

How to Paint Candles
*Tip: Before you start, practice painting a heart onto a small piece of paper. This will help you get the technique down before you try it on the candle.
Step 1: On a clean candle, paint a dot and bring the paint down at an angle to create a small line under the dot.
Step 2: Paint another dot to create the other top of the heart, then paint the brush down to meet the first brush stroke at the bottom of the heart.
Step 3: Fill in the heart with more paint so that it resembles a heart.
*Don’t worry about it being perfect as I believe handmade imperfections add beautiful charm!
Step 4: (Optional) Paint one more coat onto the hearts on the candle.
*For the pattern, I painted one long line of hearts, then I turned the candle and painted hearts in between the other hearts, and so on! However, you can choose any pattern that you want. You can also measure out the hearts and place a small pencil mark where the heart should be, or you can eyeball it like I did!
Step 5: Once the candles are dry, place them in your favorite candlesticks and enjoy! I love a beautiful pairing and so I mixed some thrifted brass and milk glass candlesticks with some new glass ones!
Thank you so much for following along! I hope you feel inspired to create your own hand painted heart candles for Valentine’s Day!
