DIY Butterfly Easter Eggs

DIY Butterfly Easter Eggs - Country Peony Blog

It is no secret that I love decorating eggs for Easter as witnessed by this post, this one, and this DIY. In light of social distancing I am trying all I can to create beautiful distractions for myself and my three children while we are at home. That said, today I wanted to show you a fun and chic DIY inspired by butterflies and flowers (my favorite Springtime arrivals), and my love for decorating eggs. It is very easy and incorporates several techniques that I have used before like this one from my DIY Patterned Pumpkins using the same Rifle Paper Co Napkins, and the DIY Floral Easter Eggs from last year.

As with all of my simple DIYs, please feel free to customize these techniques to create your own beautiful creation. All I recommend is that you enjoy the process!

Below, please enjoy a fun video that features the step-by-step process, followed by pictures and more detail to create your own DIY Butterfly Easter Eggs.

To make your own miniature butterfly Easter eggs you will need:

Step 1: Delicately remove all of the napkin layers from the top, printed layer.

Step 2: Gently cut out small floral vignettes from the printed napkin. Don’t worry too much about cutting exact lines as the glue will help hide the raw edges onto the egg.

*Keep in mind the napkin is very delicate at this point so be careful not to tear it.

*The smaller the floral vignette, the better it will lay onto the egg.

Step 3: One at a time (and very delicately) Mod Podge the floral cut outs onto the egg.

*The paper napkins are very delicate and so it is important to take your time when brushing on the Mod Podge.

*Place a wet and dry napkin nearby to help keep your hands clean. This process is very messy, and it is important to have clean and dry hands while you are applying the paper cut outs to your egg so the paper cutouts don’t stick to you.

Step 4: Gently apply one thin layer of mod podge to the entire egg, then set the egg aside to dry.

Step 5: While the egg is drying cut out your butterfly.

*I didn’t cut out the butterfly antennas because I knew they would be too delicate for my children (since they like to play with all of my projects). However, please feel free to cut them out if you want to.

Step 6: Once your egg is dry, apply one more thin coat of mod podge to the entire egg. Set it aside to dry once more.

Step 7: Once your egg is dry, fold the butterfly in half to give the butterfly movement and to create a realistic look.

Step 8: Add Beacon’s 3-in-1 Advanced Craft Glue to the back of the butterfly and attach it directly on top of a flower onto the egg.
