Happy August! One of the flowers for August is a red poppy, and so I was inspired to create red poppies using Clover’s Flower Frill Template. You know that I love a fabric flower, and Clover’s Flower Frill Template makes it so simple to create charming and whimsical flowers every time. I love how charming and whimsical this cheerful wreath turned out, and now I am thinking of all of the different types of fabric flowers I can make with Clover’s Flower Frill Template.
If you have been here for a while, you may know that I am a big fan of Clover’s products. Please enjoy these recent projects that I created using Clover Flower Frill Template: DIY Spring Fabric Floral Garland and DIY 4th of July Flower Frill Wreath.
The beauty in this DIY is that you can use fabric scraps, and you can customize it to any type of fabric or color you want. For this project, I used organza polyester and cotton. I love the texture that the variety of the fabric provides.

To make your own flower frill wreath you will need:
Create the Fabric Flowers Using Clover’s Flower Frill Template
Thread the needle and make a knot. Set it aside for later use.
Then, cut out 15-25 5 3/4 inch fabric squares.
*I have found it helpful to use a fabric rotary cutter to cut the fabric.
*Keep in mind the more fabric squares you use the fuller your flower will be.
Fold the fabric square in half and place it inside the template at the arrows, number 1 crease.
Fold inwards toward the number 2.
Fold the number 3’s together on both sides of the template. Away from you. The 1’s should be facing the outside on each side of the template.
Cut along the template at the curved top edge. Cut a little above the template line so you don’t cut the template.
Insert the needle and thread through the bottom of the petal. Be sure to thread through all of the folds.
Remove the template.
Repeat until you create about 15-25 petals.
On the last petal, remove the needle.
Tie the two ends of the thread together with a double knot.
Your fabric flower using the Flower Frill is complete!
Create the Fabric Poppies for the Floral Wreath
Create the stamen for the flowers to create the look of poppy with felt.
Cut out a small 2”X3” portion of black felt. Then, cut the bottom of the felt about two-thirds of the way up to create fringe.
Use hot glue or fabric glue on the inside of the fringe, and slowly roll the fringe to create the stamen.
Find the center of the flower, then hot glue the stamen to the inside of the flower to create the poppy.
Make enough poppy flowers for the wreath.
For my 12 inch wreath I created 10 flowers.
For added interest, I created flowers using two different fabrics. One is cotton and the other is an organza polyester fabric. However, you can use whatever fabric you have on hand or whatever catches your eye in the fabric store!
Create the Wreath with the Red Poppy Fabric Flowers
Before you add the flowers to the wreath set up the wreath form.
Create a wreath hanger using a pipe cleaner, string, or ribbon. Tie it to the top of the wreath.
Then, hot glue a 1 inch red ribbon to the wreath form to create a secure and pretty base for the wreath.
Tightly wrap the ribbon around the wreath form. Hot glue the ribbon to the wreath form on every 4th wrap around so that the ribbon stays securely onto the wreath form.
Determine the placement of the fabric poppy flowers, then one at a time hot glue them to the wreath.
Glue the fabric flowers to the wreath right next to each other so there is no gap.
To break up the red and to add some interest and movement to the wreath, I added some petals using green ribbon.
Cut green ribbon into 6 inch strips, then fold them and glue the ends together.
Then, one at a time hot glue them to the wreath (underneath the flowers) so that they are peeking through.
